The most important development in the area of hunting rifles in the last quarter of the 19 th century was the introduction of the smokeless propellant powder and, in connection with this , the development off small calibre jacketed bullet cartridges. In 1903, the legendary “Mannlicher Schönauer” came onto the market: it was a very modern repeater rifle for those days, which may undoubtedly be regarded as a sensational event in hunting weapon production. This model, shafted in one, and equipped with a barrel only 45 cm long, was to become world-famous. It became an extremely popular weapon among high mountain hunters, due to being so easy to handly. Throughout the rest of the Danube region, the Carpathian Mountains and even Africa, the “Mannlicher-Schönauer” likewise became a household name among hunters. It was used to hunt powerful Carpathian stags, bears, wild boar and, in Africa, even big game – including elephants. One must remember, however, that at the time when this weapon and cartridges were introduced, rifles were used almost exclusively without telescopic sights – i. e. with the naked eye. In the 50´s, the “Mannlicher-Schönauer” was adapted for many modern calibres. A silent sliding safety catch was also added, and it was enlarged for the use of telescopic sights. The device for loading with loading strips was regarded as being out-dated, and removed from the design. It was also no longer produced exclusively as a hunting carbine, but also as a rifle. The legendary “Mannlicher-Schönauer” is still a fascinating hunting weapon today. Easy to handle, well-balanced and indisputably attractive as well, it conveys a strong sense of nostalgia and the memory of a vanished world with a highly-developed hunting culture. The design of the breech-block and gun lock, with its outstandingly smooth action, is still very up-to-date today. And the design of the cylinder magazine, with its unique unloading method, has design of the breech-block and gun lock, with its outstandingly smooth action, is still very up-to-date today. And the design of the cylinder magazine, with its unique unloading method, has never or hardly been improved upon in modern times. In this respect, the “Mannlicher-Schönauer” represented a huge technical advance and, as a result, certainly the most famous hunting weapon of the last century. We are now producing rifles according to the “Mannlicher-Schönauer” system once again. Only very few experts have the ability to produce this weapon. Mr. Erich Schoder can claim the privilege of having been the last apprentice to thoroughly learn the craft of producing this legendary rifle. The Production by Erich Schoder At the end of the 60`s , Erich Schoder was the last rifle production apprentice to learn the craft of making the “RB2003” described above. For the past 32 years, it has concerned him to see how the rifle of a century – as the “Mannlicher-Schönauer” certainly was – has increasingly been forgotten. The 100 year Jubilee inspired the rifle manufacturer, now a company director himself, to take the step of producing a new model of the “RB 2003 ” together with his team of expert craftsmen, in order to be able to offer both the hunting community and weapons collectors a hunting rifle just like the one described above. The production of a limited series naturally involves long delivery times. This should, however, in no way dim the joy of acquiring a legendary hunting rifle. The “RB 2003 " is so identical with its 20 th -century predecessors that it`s even possible to interchange individual parts. Much of the production process is still done by hand today, exactly as it used to be. The rifles will be produced to order, so that the desired calibre, gunstock shape, telescopic sight etc. can be ordered individually. Luxury models, engravings, gold inlay decoration, monograms, shaft magazines, etc. are all possible. You will find it a great pleasure to purchase and own, not only an outstanding hunting rifle, but also the legendary weapon of a century! System RB2003 The breech-block is characterised by its high functionality. Technical Data: Calibre: Many standard and also S calibre weapons Total length: 104 to 119 cm Weight: 3,2 to 3,9 kg Telescopic sights: All makes Telescopic sight installation: rotating installation Ø The long cartridge case bridge is slotted. The flat, sporting cartridge case bridge, and thus functions as a kind of safety button. Ø The long grooves of the gun lock projectionsand of a rail located in front of the cartridge chamber tube, combined with the side groovesfor the two projections in the cartridge case, give this breech-block its incomparably smooth gliding action when the cartridge chamber is moved backwards and forwards. Ø The push-lever located on the side cartridge case tube enables the quick, easy emptying of the magazine be means of a locking catch. Ø The magazine shaft is produced in one piece together with the breech-block case. The 5 cartridges lie around the cylinder Mechanism. The whole magazine is therefore designed to fit very snugly into the weapon, saving a lot of space. More Features: The cylinder magazine can be removed from underneath the weapon without the use of a tool. After pressing in a spring panel (upwards, in the direction of the binding screw), the bottom of the Magazine can be swivelled out sideways and the cylinder mechanism removed. Hunting carbine: The base of the front sight is equipped with a running groove. The metal end of the front shaft is pushed onto it.
